A Call To Prayer- Sketch

A Call to Prayer- Sketch

EXT. HIGH STREET. EVENING.

WE SEE A MUSLIM MAN PRAYING ON HIS PRAYER MAT IN THE TRADITIONAL STYLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGH STREET OF AN AVERAGE TOWN. SUDDENLY, HIS APPROACHED BY ANOTHER MUSLIM MAN WITH A PRAYER MAT UNDER HIS ARM.

Muslim 2
Abdullah. What are you doing in the middle of the street? Everybody is looking at you!

Muslim 1
I am praying to Mecca.

Muslim 2
But this is not Mecca. It’s Gala Bingo.

PULLBACK TO REVEAL GALA BINGO ON BUILDING.

Muslim 1
Yes I know. But with Gala you get loyalty card, three fat marker pens and nectar points (Flashes cards) Hilda and Dottie told me to use their membership cards while they were on holiday.

Muslim 2
Are you sure? Membership cards are not transferable?

CUT TO: EXT. MECCA- SAUDI ARABIA. DAY

TWO OLD LADIES ARE WALKING THE KAABA DRESSED IN TRADITIONAL CLOTHING.

Hilda
What time does the first game start? I’m tired of walking.

Dottie
Just once more around and we’ll call it a day.

Hilda
My Ihram itches.

I liked it but think you should cut to to just ahving the final line being the its Gala Bingo bit. Also it should be done by Paul Whitehouse in that voice he does for the real gala bingo ads. :)

Phew - when I saw the subject of this thread I'd thought you were trying to get everyone blown up with a dodgy sketch about the muslims Wildjesusfishkid!

On further reading though I see this is a nice gentle sketch :) I agree with ajp29 though - probably best to keep it short and sweet and end on the Gala Bingo line. Don't do a French and Saunders and follow up a good gags with some less-strong ones!

Incidently do check out the new Canadian comedy Little Mosque on the Prairie. That show does a very good job of mixing the sensitive subject of muslim religion with comedy. http://www.cbc.ca/littlemosque/
