Much more watchable than Cradle To Grave and I think it was a terrible scheduling idea to put them one after the other.
Sensitively done and funny where it should be.

Agree about the scheduling thing, but on the whole CTG was much better.
BMG seemed like a 'Hebburn' duplicate with the male protagonist's family over-acting like mad, esp Denise Welch. Apart from the transgender slant, it was a very traditional family sitcom. I didn't laugh once. I'll give it one more try though.
I did find it quite endearing (and unusual) that the dad and son were constantly cuddling on the sofa.

That was a bit weird wasn't it.

Where would you expect them to cuddle, on top of the telly?
No, most sitcom dads do not cuddle up to their sons.
Like every British 'comedy drama' made in the last 10 years, just irritating and full of the kind of dialogue, direction and performances that should only happen in gentle mid afternoon dramas like Doctors or Father Brown.
No problem with the subject matter, just a shame it's been treated in such a clichéd, contrived, seen it all before way.
I always get the impression that most comedy dramas in recent years were originally intended to just be comedies but the writers changed their minds when they realized it wasn't funny enough.
Auf Weidersehen Pet is a comedy drama. This is a mild daytime drama dressed as a sitcom.
As Father Brown was a comedy drama, what's your point?

Absolutely spot on.
Not being a huge fan of sitcoms I found myself compelled to watch the first episode of Boy Meets Girl on BBC2 after seeing an interview with Rebecca Root on breakfast television. I am completely overwhelmed and moved by this show. It's an amazing insight into a misunderstood subject. I can't wait for the next episode.

Is it? I've only seen one episode and didn't spot any comedy.

Rebecca Root has an amazing speaking voice; being as sound-sensitive as I am regarding screeching, it was lovely to hear. Apparently she's also a voice coach and specialises in helping TSs find their voice.

She sounded familiar. I wonder if she's worked as a continuity announcer or something like that. She looks a bit like Anjelica Huston.
She's done stand-up.

If we're going down that route, Clement and La Frenais told me that they do not consider Auf Wiedersehen, Pet to be a comedy.
Genre specifications are down to the channel, not to the writer. Boy Meets Girl is being promoted as a sitcom, not a comedy drama.
The term "comedy drama" has certainly, however, become prolific in recent years to describe stories or simple serials. Those terms have been lost by television schedulers and PR types. A whole ream of shows that are neither dramatic, nor particularly comic, have ended up with the label.
Anyway, I enjoyed Boy Meets Girl. Episode 2 is better.
