Lost Hearts

Based on the M.R. James story. The film centers on a young boy named Steven, who, following an argument between his parents is sent to live with his Uncle Abney and his wife Mary at a remote house. While there, Steven uncovers a few unpleasant surprises.

The photography is wonderful but the script is appalling and the dialogue stunningly naive.

I watched for 18 minutes (attracted largely by the photography and my love of M R James' writing) but, had I been unfamiliar with the original story, I wouldn't have had a clue what was going on.

I'm sure members will remark that this is in no way a comedy film but I urge them to listen to the dialogue, remember that a legally-competent adult thought it fit to go into production with, and reconsider.

The film is a comedy AND a tragedy - for all the wrong reasons.
