Like I said, I think they are giving him an arc during the series from nasty to nice.
I worked in post production on this show, and Abby was orginally played by somebody else, who suddenly got replaced when the final espisodes were being distributed. I don't know why, because the first lady was much better!

Or maybe just a little hint.
Is that the girlfriend/flatmate? I think she's a terrible actress. You can't spot her in the background of scenes, sometimes looking at the camera and, more often than not, corpsing.
She does look nice though. 
That's all right then.
Not nice enough to not be annoying though. So, no, not really.
Oh.
Well maybe they'll get the old one back for series 2.
