Was Jupitus ever funny? I think these days Ron Jeremy is even the better comedian of the two.
In defence of Phil Jupitus:
Of course he was funny.
I would say that he still has the potential to be.
But the panel show vehicles on which he is such a staple are as dead as a dodo.
Someone in the Beeb needs to have the guts to kill off 'Never mind the Buzzcocks'. Of all the panel shows it is the one which is most dead of all.
Frankly, they all need replacing, but Buzzcocks is utterly defunct.
Even if Jupitus were the funniest man on the planet he could not breathe life into that format.
I once quite liked it - long, looong ago.
Now I just want it to go away.
So yes, Jupitus is a funny man.
But the format to which his talents most lend themselves is dead in the water.
The panel show has had its day. Just about each one is over ten years old. It more than shows. But the broadcasters just don't know which way to turn and just keep plodding on regardless.
It's unfair to blame Jupitus for this.
There are plenty others at whom we could point fingers for accepting their thirty pieces of silver to keep on turning up.
The fault lies entirely with the broadcasters who prefer the convenience of these utterly worn out format shows.
