Eldonspotting!

It is scientifically proven that The Actor Kevin Eldon™ appears in every British comedy ever made, including those filmed before he'd been born. If you don't see him, that just means he's hiding behind the sofa. Or behind that tree over there. Or maybe he's in another room upstairs (where he could also be appearing in another sitcom at the same time).

More often than not, however, he actually pops up on the screen, invariably prompting me to exclaim, "Oh hey, I didn't know Kevin Eldon was in this!", to no one in particular. Because there's usually no one else there. Also, I exclaim it in Russian. Because I am one.

Anyway, I'm growing tired of exclaiming the aforementioned exclamation all by myself, and instead of finding someone else to exclaim it with me (a girlfriend, perhaps, or a well-trained parrot), I decided to turn to the internet in search of like-minded individuals sharing my admittedly uncommon hobby. So let's spot Kevin Eldon together and share our experiences of Eldon sightings in this thread!

There is, however, one rule that must be followed (I have no way of enforcing it, of course, but what is fun if you're not playing by the rules?): A legitimate Eldon sighting must be unexpected. In other words, if you're re-watching Big Train for the umpteenth time and see Kevin Eldon, do not report it in this thread. Likewise, if you're watching some show for the first time, but you are aware of Kevin's involvement in the programme beforehand, do not report. On the other hand, whenever you see The Actor Kevin Eldon on the screen and exclaim (or think to yourself, I'm not here to judge), "I didn't know Kevin Eldon was in this!", remember that there are people you can share this wonderful experience with. In this thread.

Happy Eldonspotting!

P.S. To get us started, I spotted Kevin Eldon in the second series of Utopia just last week. It's not even a comedy! How does he find the time?

I have it from a reliable source, that Neil Armstrong's first words when stepping onto the moon were in fact,
'Damn, there's that Kevin Eldon again.'

I once spent a couple days working with Kevin Eldon.

He's relentlessly funny even when the cameras aren't rolling.

I didn't know you were Kevin Eldon! :O

Hmm, apparently it's been a while since I last saw him in anything, but I just spotted Kevin Eldon in the second episode of The Kennedys!

He was indeed - the DVLA Examiner no less.

Yes, he's comedy royalty, that's for sure, but I thought that his own show was a bit patchy to say the least. My favourite Eldon roles are as follows:

Alan Partridge's Kitchen Representative (Fellow Linton Travel Tavern Guest)
Schoolteacher Tony Rudd performing his 'Music 2000' entry 'Machadaynu'
Waiter 1 in 'Blue Heaven'

He wrote and starred in Brilliantman, a short silent film that was on Sky Arts about a month ago.

I watched it because of him, and it was his usual quirky style.

The scene in which he looks into the drawer in Alan's room and laughs is one of the funniest sitcom moments I've ever seen.

Has anyone seen Eldon and Cotter in the same place?

The pointing bit too plus his evil giggle.

There is also the use of The Dairy Cookbook circa 1972 in that scene where KE's character keeps repeating the 'witticism' that he sells kitchens but cannot actually cook. My mum had that very edition and yes, I learned to cook by following its dairy-based recipes. It disintegrated in the end, but fear not, I purchased a replacement from a charity shop in 2007.

Must stop now as I'm boring myself, let alone anyone else.

Not a 'sighting' as such, but my inner 8-year-old has been enjoying Eldon's Penfold in the rebooted Danger Mouse. :D

My real-life eight-year-old and me were watching it yesterday. It's great stuff and very faithful to the spirit of the original.

Spotted Eldon just now in Brian Pern: A Life in Rock. :D
