Yes but it's a deliberate throwback to the low-brow comedy of decades past, which he feels is missing from mainstream TV and people still appreciate. The Beeb seem to agree with him and I doubt they'd back this up with long contracts if they didn't feel there was a market for it. And there obviously is, as a lot of people are still watching this, so why deny them their enjoyment because many others can't abide it? Comedy snobbery maybe?

Oh no,I'm glad it's on the air just wish it was better scripted and better acted
I can see what he's trying to do but it's just a bit too broad for me with not enough laughs
Never been a panto person and clearly that's what this is,,, so be it.
Yes sorry that wasn't aimed at you, I meant it generally. Yes, well performers and comedians in the old days often used comedy writers to supplement their material, and of course some still do today, so maybe he needs to bring someone in to freshen it up?
On the acting, I don't think that's possible, as it's almost exclusively a family cast. But I've always got the impression he thinks this amateurism adds to the laughs. But I believe it's the thing that puts a lot of people off it.
Well, nobody forces anyone to watch crap. It's like when Brits say they watched all the American Office and didn't like it. I'da thought that after ep number 76,629 you might've twigged it's not for you.
