The makers of the new BBC 1 series, first screened tonight must be congratulated on this one. Not only is the spirit of the original work faithfully reproduced, with the help of those fine actresses Miranda Richardson and Anna Chancellor (and notice also Pippa 'Helen Brittas' Haywood in there too!), but we also have the delightful location of Rye in Sussex (many happy memories of childhood holidays) used to re-create the fictional town of Tilling. Sadly, for those like myself who like narrow gauge railways, the delightful one that served Rye Golf Course perished just after World War Two and hence could not feature in the series, but this was no fault of the producers and in the context of the proceedings was a minor loss. It is only hope that more programmes in the series with the same cast will be made and the end of this run will not be a case of goodbye, but merely 'Au Reservoir'!
