David Ryall: RIP

The versatile sitcom actor has died aged 79. He appeared as Sue's father in Outnumbered plus he featured in The Return of Shelley amongst other roles. I also recall him in the second Sapphire and Steel adventure where he played a ghosthunter investigating paranormal happenings in an abandoned railway station. Spooky stuff indeed.

A fine comic actor.

I once went to see a medical specialist, who in looks, mannerisms and general demeanour was a dead ringer for David Ryall, which was disconcerting, but oddly comforting.

He also played Phoebe's father in the first series of Goodnight Sweetheart. Sad news. RIP.

I think I know who you mean. Always seemed such a "nice" man.

RIP

Very memorable as the constantly complaining 'Mr. Hall' in the Singing Detective. RIP

RIP.

Probably the most well known role he played was Eric, Phoebe's father in Goodnight Sweetheart.

That's how I'll always see him.

Sad news as he was a fine actor who appeared in pretty much every show out there.

Some other sitcoms he appeared in include Some Mothers do Ave Em, A Fine Romance, Bless Me Father, League of Gentleman's Apocalypse etc.

I'll probably most remember him for his dark turn as one of the murderers in Inspector Morse though...
