I think it is:-

YORKSHIRE
Leeds
York
Pontefract
Chorley

BEATLES FIRST NAMES
James
Richard
John
George

BIBLICAL CHARACTERS
Joseph
Mark
Paul
Stephen

CAKES
Eccles
Tottenham
Dundee
Oxford

In line with the TV show, I can tell you that TWO groups above have the correct four names.

John, James, George and Richard are correct and are identified correctly as The Beatles' FIRST names.

Joseph, Mark, Paul and Stephen are also correct but, while they are indeed among myriad names from the Bible, they are more specifically four brothers well-known in the world of acting - the McGanns.

Neither of the other two groups contains the right four names and, of those two groups, only one group-name is identified correctly.

you have to be careful when submitting to Only Connect that each item will only fit one group.

That can't be true. If it were, the game would be almost child's play.

It's not what he meant. Of course they will fit more than one group - that is the essence of the game.
On the wall I did, most had five possible answers but that would leave other groups with no matches.

So there has to be only one definitive answer.

That is the hard bit when making them up.

But some items can fit more than one group
Otherwise it would be too easy

And it's real first names of the Beatles otherwise they'd have Ringo

Of course they do, that is the idea of the red herrings - you have completely missed my point.

And.........Wha?

Thank you Stephen, at least someone got the point. :)

Here you go I've done one

It's probably rubbish, and would never be accepted by Only connect
But it's just a bit of fun innit

Esther Testament Rush Job
Maiden Keane Kiss Joel
Gun Genesis Aldridge Boston
Fowler Stand Hunt Numbers

BOOKS of the BIBLE: Esther, Job, Genesis, Numbers.

LIVERPOOL FC PLAYERS: Aldridge, Fowler, Rush, Hunt.

BILLY: Joel, Boston, Keane, Maiden.

ROCK BANDS: Testament, Kiss, Gun, Stand.

Of course they do, that is the idea of the red herrings - you have completely missed my point.

Your point was that Paul & James could go in either/be interchangeable
But Paul would not have been a correct answer for Beatles birth names.

Do you understand my point?

Close

Rock bands Liverpool Strikers & Books of Bible are correct categories
Billy's is wrong
And none of the groups are complete there but you're close

Another one of mine

I am getting better at this.

Ah! But now you have introduced birth names, which is a different kettle of fish and of course he is known as Paul - you said Forenames and Rood Eye said First names, and is a middle name a birth name anyway?

Whatever way you want to put it, Paul and James are in conflict with the grouping - there has to be a clear and definitive one group that each fits in.

Well done! I didn't think anyone would get anywhere near it, and you're so close with one error - the Bandanna and Ivy need to be swapped and the last group is/are Indian words that have been adopted into the English language.

Ah, yes.

That does make sense. Cool
