Andrew Lawrence

Ooh yes.
Now, he *is* the ginger one and not the little Irish one, yes?

Definitely not true. His DVDs are easily the best Stand-Up DVDs I've ever seen, and I've seen quite a lot. I've never seen Bill live, but it's clear that nothing is lost on the DVDs.

Pardon? How can you say that? I didn't say that the DVDs were bad, or really any less funny - far from it in fact - but how can you POSSIBLY make any argument here when you've not seen him live?
I'm telling you, as someone who has seen Bill Bailey live numerous times - and I'm sure most other people who've seen a show or performer live and then on TV/DVD/etc would agree with me - that there is a certain extra "magic" in the air, a proper atmosphere, just something special which can never be recreated on DVD. Perhaps it's not entirely the case for all performers, but IMO, it certainly is for Bill.

I'm sure there is a great atmosphere created at Bill's shows, but I've never had the chance to see him since he doesn't tour in the U.S.
He's my favorite because his three DVDs alone. They're good enough that I can tell that the quality of his act isn't lost. True, it would be a more enjoyable experience to see him live than to watch a DVD of the same show, but I love his DVDs.

For anyone interested Paramount have just launched a website packed full of standup routines www.theworldstandsup.com - there's a fair few current British standup favourites included in the clip archive, people like Frankie Boyle and Lucy Porter.

i also have seen Bill Bailey live, on his Bewilderness tour, ten minutes in to the show i wasn't impressed, but after that, yes a great atmosphere developed, he had a good mood to him and every one was in comfort, apart from me, as i was soaked, it piddled it down outside, and i sat there soaked, but it was still one of the best live acts i've seen!!!! Laughing out loud

what about you, do you write?

hi ollie, yes i have been writing stand-up for years, i tried to write a sitcom script, but it was piss poor, so i stuck to what i know best, my signatures are always, material that i have written, i like the names on your list, some of them i hav'nt seen, some i have and enjoyed Rolling eyes
