Try selling major infrastructure to people whose homes will be bulldozed. One minute, you're handing out hankies to war heroes who have just burst into tears. The next you are being interrogated by a nice sort of woman with dangly earrings as her three adult sons are glaring and waving their heavily tattooed fists.
In the background, the young womens' rights group who earlier sprayed green paint on your colleagues' faces are writhing like animals under a contingent of policewomen who have especially been bussed in. And then you yourself are knocked flying by a hefty slap on the back as a sleazy sounding "well done" is whispered in your ear accompanied by a cupful of spittle, the memory of which never fully disappears.
That, of course, is the local Tory Member of Parliament who several months later is predictably given the boot for fiddling his expenses. Finally at nightfall, you leap at the opportunity to go with others incognito
to the pub only to fall unceremoniously into one of the ditches dug in preparation for the go-ahead.
Oh God, not this again. I still get comments from the last time I was on that show, just judgemental, thoughtless things like, 'Why did you do it?' 'You didn't have to murder her.' 'Where do you live?' blah blah blah.
Like I emailed the police at the time, CCTV isn't a reliable piece of evidence and anyway I've run off to India now so nur, nur, nuh, nur nurr.
