British Comedy Guide

Marvellous

Probably the best example of comedy-drama I've seen in years. Excellent writing, superb character acting. The BBC at its best. Respect to Lou Macari and Stoke City. I'm now a bit of a fan.

Brilliant.
I wonder if Gervais was watching....

And yet, it wasn't described as a comedy drama, but a docudrama and "life story".

That's how wary they are of comedy-dramas.
Even when they make one they call it something else.

Have just watched this.

Great story.

Great performances.

The best 90 minutes of television I have watched in a long time.

Here here, I absolutely loved the scenes where Neil and Toby spoke together.

Funny, affectionate, fascinating and serious.

Yup that's my best 90 minutes of telly in some time.

Do you think they'll learn from this?
Do you think they'll look to longer format - good writing -feel good?
Proper actors - not imported soap stars.

We can dream, I suppose.
