At one of his Royal Albert Hall concerts I went to he started some political rant about the taxes when he doesn't even live here now. Somone behind me shouted to him to piss off back to Dublin so his fans aren't all worshippers of the man.

He does though have good taste in women being previously married to Cait O'Riordan of the Pogues and now to Diana Krall with whom he has twins.

Judging from his official albums and lots of archival material - yes. But his "advantage" over lots of other talented people (McCartney for instance) is that he died that young. I'm sure if he'd still be alive he would have made some shitty albums...like they all did.
