On Sleep Away Camp

Every summer parents send their kids off to sleep away camp. My mom never sent us to camp, because she had strong moral objections to having us coming back.

The school would send out a list of affordable camps every summer and my mother would do the research and I think she was most discouraged by the lack of bear sightings in the area.

One year we did try getting back to nature, or that's what she told me. She gave me a sandwich and a flash light and told me to keep walking that way. "No, don't turn around. I'm right behind you. Alright, he's gone, get in the car."

I liked the gag about your mother's strong moral objections. I think there's something in the bear one, but it needs to be a little cleverer. The final one is too predictable.

The UK doesn't really have the summer camp culture that the US has, so maybe I'm not the best judge of these.

I spent some time at work trying different ways to write this one. Fever kept escalating so I got a bit distracted. I will endeavor to post rewrites tomorrow.

I used to board these huge state coaches with 100 or so other unlucky bastards. Kids and parents both crying as they'd say goodbye to each other for the next 3 weeks. The only thing I remember about boarding those coaches was the smell of burning rubber and tyres screeching as my parents fled to a holiday destination that you might actually WANT to go to.

Once my mom sent me into a forest to try and kill a bear... After 3 days in the wilderness I'd managed to shoot a full grown mountain bear. I took the bloody head back with me and instead of being impressed, she just said that I wouldn't be a real man unless I could do it without my glasses. They took fat from my ass and grafted it onto my legs. science is just amazing.

I like your stuff Sean, it makes me chuckle. After writing this (I even bore in mind that you wear glasses and are American) I've realised I don't have a future in stand up comedy.

I like this its coming over as a decent little joke.

I think you might want to work on developing character a little more strongly and building upto a conclusion.
