Romeo the Paphian Poetry Blog

Hi

My name is George Hartley, aka Clock Sod, Rupert Nitrogen, Ron Seal, Romeo the Paphian, Wakati and Kulala..

I am a surrealist, poet, music producer, drummer and writer. I would like to share with you my selection of extravagant, non-sequitur poetry with the most random themes imaginable...

HERE IT IS

Sorry George. Not my cup of tea. There is beat but no meaning so I don't see the point. Surrealism is a carefully worked out and thought about form - in this area I would stick to the sticks.

Well I know what my style is ... non-sequitur humour inspired by various people. That's exactly what I'm doing. Surrealist poetry doesn't need a deep meaning anyway.

Ok. Just saying surreal doesn't equate with meaningless. Poetry is what you want to make it if you want to follow your own definition. A diary isn't art but it can be.

They're not all meaningless.

That may be the case but they are not surrealist poetry. Call them nonsense poems if you like.

Give me an example of surrealist poetry

Look it up.

With a few extra syllables Mindbrake could become one of those hip hops. Not sure if that's something you've considered? I've got a couple of syllables still in the box if you're interested? Could even throw in a vowel or two and do an eBay listing if you're up for it? I won't use yodel though because the last time I got something from them I had to go all the way to vauxhall to pick it up because they wouldn't redeliver it to a different address and when I opened the box all the notions had turned into smoke rings because of staff shortages. :(

That's exactly what I thought... it could be some kind of weird hip hop track. Not a thing I'm particularly into but it does resemble rapping when spoken. I buy my vowels on Amazon, I'm sorry. Thanks for the offer.

And - Marc P - I'm a fan of people like Breton and Soupault, but there are more modern styles of surreal verse and humour. I fuse both. I have written poetry in similar styles to the classic French surrealists but I havent put these online yet

Well I'd be more interested to see those when you do. But if I am honest I am not a huge fan of the Surrealism movement. But meaning is certainly important to them as with any artist.

I've just put up a very dark poem, which shows another side (though it's not comedy)

Well it certainly is more of the thing. You do seem to be a tad of the slave to the rhyme which can break the rhythm a bit I would say. It's the rap creeping in but keep it metrical, if that's the word, would help. Best of luck withe showcase hope you get some feedback from others rather than just from a miserable git like me :)

no im happy to get constructive criticism when necessary
