Jonah from Tonga

Chris Lilley's latest offering. This time a whole series based around Jonah, the wayward teen from Summer Heights High.

Today and yesterday the whole series has been available on the iPlayer. After today though it will be taken down and aired weekly starting on Thursday 8th of May.

I didn't find the Ja'mie series too great and after watching this series I feel perhaps even more let down. Jonah was a great character in SHH but this seemed to offer very little in terms of laughs and also the emotional side wasn't handled as well as it was in SHH or Angry Boys.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents, I'm interested in what everyone else thinks about this series.

This is feeble and really not funny.

In SHH Jonah just about worked as a character, where Chris Lilley was playing every part. But even then it was queezily racist much of the time.

This is just racist.

How the f**k is the BBC having a pretend tantrum over Clarkson and showing this shit.

Just saw the first episode of this. I didn't dislike it but didn't love it either. Will give it another go next week, but not sure I'll watch the whole series.

I just saw it. I rather liked it. Jonah is a hell of a lot more likeable than J'amie.

I didn't see J'amie how annoying can she be.

She is terrifying. But J'amie was funny, once I got over that.

I think the thing for me is for someone to black up is pretty radical and offensive, SHH just about got away with it.

But this, it just felt mocking.

In early scenes I wasn't even sure he had any makeup on, it just looked like a white guy with a normal tan. But in some scenes he looked a lot darker.

But I don't think for a second that Chris Lilley is racist or wants to mock anyone for their race, so I'm fine with it.

Zooo if I'm ever on trial I sincerely hope you're in the jury.

Chris Lilley needs to work on some other characters, playing a teenage girl / boy at near 40 is just odd. The man has something of the night about him.

Jonah from Tongo might be blurring the lines between comedy and flat out racism but his character S.mouse was pretty much laughing at black people.

I think they're equally racist, we're just not so familiar in the UK with the Tongan stereotypes.

I'm at a loss how this is seen as just being ironic.

Jonah in SHH was at least diluted.

I didn't think it was that bad, in fact I actually quite liked it - although, it's blatantly j'amie rewritten

I ended up sticking with it. My opinion didn't really change, in the end
I still neither really disliked or really loved the series.
I don't see what people found racist about it-I don't think it portrayed all people from Tonga to behave in the way that Jonah does, but that is just my opinion and doesn't mean I'm right.

I think also it didn't feel like he got what he deserved, where as in the series with Jam'ie it felt like she got her comeuppance. I suppose thought that would have made them even more alike.

End of the day it is so far the only Aussie comedy this year- unless you count a couple of crappy panel shows.

I loved it.
Also loved the closing theme tune. Although the f**king TV person talked over most of it every week.

Jonah from tonga is proper comedy I'm fed up of people saying oooo it's racist. People tip toe around too much. I love the program just as much as SHH it's comedy and it's funny. Alot of comidians will take the piss out of people that arnt the same such as gays, blacks, fat people, and gingers. As long as it's not to the point of bullying it's funny.
