I'm with all the people who said instrumental stuff, lyrics are too distracting for me. Explosions in the Sky are a big one for me at the moment, in particular their soundtrack LP for Prince Avalanche (which is a really funny film). Russian Circles are a bit more intense, great deadline music. Oh, and Mogwai. Always.
What do you watch/listen to whilst you write? Page 2
Silence. I listen to music pretty much constantly, but switch it off when it's time to work.

How can you stand Collymore? Just writing his name puts me on edge.
Collymore always sounds the like title of a dog based porn novel
Colly-amore
Thank you for sharing that delightful thought with us, sooty.
Let the puns run free
Currently listening to depeche mode whilst writing a routine about a man who has sex with full garbage sacks.
Meh it's the clients fault for letting me write what I like.
I need silence, for there is a genius at work.
If I work with too much silence, I assume I'm doing standup.
And will stare at the computer and wonder off into the garden in a cloud of misunderstood angst.
Some excellent ideas there, thanks all.

Strangelove? Wrong? Black Sack Celebration?
Tonight, while trying to write one-liners for Newsjack, I'll be listening to Sunderland thump Spurs.
See, I can write jokes.
C'mon Sunderland!
