Stand up material submission

Scotland Hi,any ideas how I could submit stand up to an agent/artist etc;
I have serious material, enough for a full hour set.

Sorry just looked at some of your older posts.

Without proof of what you can do, no one is going to read your stuff and this has been said before.

Seriously no one. Reading your material takes time and runs the risk of being accused of plagarism.

So do standup, publish stuff on forums, get stuff on the radio whatever.

But there's been no miraculous changes in the last 2 years.

If he's Welsh, what's with the Scots flag?

Erm... his profile says he's in Wales, I know they want independence but at the moment Scottish people are still allowed to live in other parts of the UK. ;)

(Plus with "Bhoy" in the username I'm assuming he/she is a Celtic fan)

Oh and what sootyj said about submitting material, a lot of stand ups won't even look at unsolicited material for fear of being accused of plagiarism if it's similar to material they already have.

Your best bet, if you don't want to do stand up yourself, is to go to your local comedy clubs and get chatting with acts (especially if they are doing Edinburgh fringe previews when they might be looking for additional material) to see if they want anyone to write for them. Just make some general enquiries and try not to be too pushy.

Also, get your writing out there, via blogs, twitter, facebook, submit gags for radio shows ("Newsjack", etc) and try to get a reputation as someone who can write good stand up material.

Depends what you are trying to achieve, if you want to be a comedian you need at least 50 gigs under your belt to get some good material together and get noticed by inviting agents to your gigs or recording them. If you want to write for a comedian then you need a comedian who shares your sense of humour. Unless you can showcase something then you're pissing in the wind.

Sooyj..point taken..present material light years away from previous.

Tim & Tony..A Scot living in wales..simple answer..sorry it was confusing for you.
Purple Ronnie..Thanks for the only coherent reply mate..A writer of..I have contacted a few with regards to them having a look see..Prefer not to bother folks with unsolicited material..Anyway,thanks again.Jamie.

It doesn't matter how good or bad your material, how much it has improved in the last 2 years if no one can see it.
This attitude is so common, but it's entirely baffling.
Why is anyone going to take interest in what they can't see.
And as for contacts you can sell stuff to, no one's going to share that with you.
The replies have been more than coherent and more than fair.

Absolutely, most people, myself included are happy to give advice (in fact we've all pretty much done just that on this thread) but it took me 8 years of slogging around the comedy circuit, making contacts, chatting to other comics and writers, submitting material for free, writing blogs, tweeting, putting material on facebook, meeting radio producers, going to Edinburgh, etc, etc to break into getting paid for comedy writing, so forgive me if I'm not just going to forward you all of my contacts and hand it to you on a plate.
