British Comedy Guide

Hello from Austria

Hello there, this is Austria (yet not Vienna) calling.

I've been stopping by this page almost daily for the better part of the last three years and finally managed to overcome my laziness. So... here I am, I suppose.

My first contact with British comedy, as so many of my generation, was Mr Bean some 20-25 years ago. Discovered VHS recordings of Fawlty Towers with German subtitles in my dad's collection when I was about 10 and was hooked immediately. Flash forward to the end of my first semester of English at university in 2006 when my grammar professor (not my specialist subject as you might've noticed by now) slipped me a VHS recording of (among other stuff such as HIGNFY and Black Books - one of my favourites to this day) Little Britain with strict instructions. I was not to show this to anybody or let anybody know that a professor was giving me something as 'controversional' and potentially 'filthy'.

Discovered Buzzcocks soon after (being a music buff and such) and never looked back. Am watching pretty much everything from the classic (Python, Black Adder, 'Allo 'Allo) to newer stuff (can't wait to give Uncle & House of Fools a shot, currently trying some Doc Martin and, for international views, Arrested Development), panel shows (WILTY, QI), sketch shows, and DVDs. Always open for recommendations, always looking to expand my DVD collection (recent additions including Father Ted, Grandma's House, and Burnistoun) already pitying you for having to deal with my rather poor English.

Aaaaaand that's that for now.

Welcome dawak Wave
