Why do people watch television dramas?

Hi,

I am in my final year at Bournemouth University and doing a research project on why people watch television dramas and if mobile apps can enhance drama viewing.

I have developed a questionnaire which I would really appreciate it if you could take your time to complete so I can gain a better idea of why viewers watch television dramas and what they desire from companion applications. https://qtrial.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_9XjFDncpMrjnQvX

If you have any opinions on my research such as whether companion would enhance the viewing experience for dramas please post them below, I would be really interested to hear your thoughts.

Thanks!

OK - suit yourself! Just about to do it too.

Come on grandad lets go down the park and f**k the ducks.

I heard that ....pardon?

It's for people aged 18 - 34. They are upset because they are old.

Whipper snapper, I remember when all this site was Fresh Fields.

Oh I seeeeeeee, duh. Sorry.
I thought everyone had just gone mad.

That's the most depressing survey I've ever taken!

"Do you watch dramas because there's no one else to talk to?"
"because you're lonely?"
"to escape your problems?"
"to escape the real world?"
"to be around people watching them?"

Does this 'companion app' double as a suicide prevention hotline?

booyah to Harridan

It does sound like a sinister program from a serial killer thriller movie.

I've completed the survey and requested a companion app that will provide nude photos and any porn videos that stars of Coronation Street have done. Thanks. All those options for "why do you watch TV dramas" yet not a single answer was "to masturbate competitively with friends". How about developing an app that allows fans of certain TV to develop a competitive league to see who can masturbate to orgasm the fastest and most frequently - to certain characters? Just a thought.

I can see your point I do think some elements are a little depressing. It has been taken from a previous questionnaire that has been used a lot in previous studies.

Thanks for everyone that has done it!

Apologies to anyone I have offended with having to restrict the ages. I didn't because it because I believe that older people don't use technology is was just to make sure I could gather a sample representative of my research population.

So by TV dramas they mean Corie, Easenders and Emmerdale? I thought they meant things like 7.39, Auf Weidersehen, Riff raff element etc.

At the moment I'm looking at dramas in general before drilling down into specific sub genres. For things like the 7:39 I can't see apps working because it is unlikely they will produce this for just 2 episodes.

How dare you still linger in this thread? Can't you read? The use of mobile apps to enhance the viewing experience of TV dramas is only for people aged 18-34. Any children and geriatrics can go to blazes because they have no place in the research population. And now if you'll excuse me, it's time for another episode of Logan's Run.
