Maybe he shouldn't have brought it up.
Everyone, including himself says he shouldn't have said it and he shouldn't. But he didn't do the stealing, he just had a drunken row with her husband about it. (it's only the fact that he is now dead that makes it sound worse)
He would have to be saintly though to resist firing back with a comment he knew would hurt her under all the flak he was taking.

In truth, I wanted to like him - and his funny 'dad like' quips were amusing but I couldn't help feeling slightly uneasy about his innuendos to the young girls. I'm of a similar age and I would never make regular lewd or salacious comments to girls of their ages.

I assume the general public that voted for him are too young to even know about his past. I reckon all they know is that he was brought into the Yewtree thing last year, but was found innocent, and he thought the whole country hated him/thought he was a paedo. BB voters love any kind of redemption storyline, or showing people who think everyone hates them that they all love them (see Nadia, etc).
Plus he managed not to say anything racist or homophobic for the whole 3 weeks (as far as I know).
