Sitcom query

We've received the following query via our Facebook account. The question comes from a lady in Massachusetts, so it's probably a relatively well-known series that's enjoyed PBS and/or BBC America outings.

It's ringing bells for me but I can't quite place it.

Several years ago, I saw an episode of a BBC comedy on TV, and I'm hoping someone will be able to identify it. In the episode, the protagonists were at a funeral, and had their shopping with them. The bag broke, and oranges kept falling into the grave.

Also, one of the protagonists either killed or was afraid they had killed an old lady at the wake. It had something to do with putting sugar in her tea. It was one of the funniest shows I've ever seen in my life.

Any ideas? Thank you!

It is me, I am trying to "subscribe to this thread".

Putting sugar in her tea.

Broadcast in America.

No, doesn't ring any bells.

I think it's Mother and Son... here's a clip to the build up. http://aso.gov.au/titles/tv/mother-and-son-funeral/clip1/

Aussie, British, Boston... all sound the same to us in 'Merica.

A British sitcom did it too, aw crap I can't remember what it's called.

It had David Haig and an older actress... Stephanie something.

EDIT: Keeping Mum! Episode 2 according to this. (And her name is Stephanie Cole, ha Laughing out loud ).

Is it not a Fish Called Wanda with Michael Palin trying to kill the dogs?

It IS "Mother and Son"!!!!! Oh, thank you, thank you!

slightly o/t but reminds me of my all time favourite simpsons gag
Homer watching PBS:
I stumbled across the most delicious British sitcom. "Do Shut Up" It's about a hard-drinking yet loving family of soccer hooligans. If they're not having a go with a bird, they're having a row with a ******.
