Thanks for the vote of confidence George but I haven't got the bottle to do stand up I really haven't. I loved to write for a stand up I could do that, but going on stage is not me at all.
As for accent it is Scouse not pretend Scouse which is hideous, I suppose its the same for Cockneys with Mockneys and people from Brum, everyone thinks they can do a Brum accent so it must really do a real Brums head in.

Writing for standups is terrible money and they expect you to be original.

Now wedding speeches or even motivational speeches is where the money is.

Bit wind beneath the wings though.

I am original Sooty always have been, I would never crack another persons joke or claim something that wasn't mine.

With stand up I think the secret is creating monologues rather than jokes. The best comedian in the world could write the best set of gags ever and start a tour of the UK in Glasgow, but thanks to Twitter, Texts, Facebook etc by the time they got to Newcastle two nights later everyone would know their jokes. So my stuff would be monologue and worth every penny, if I could get the work that is

There's original and then there's original

A nervous bestman probably wants half a dozen semi amusing stories made funny and not to blue, maybe 2-3 jokes in each.

A standup usually wants a narrative, broken into 4 or 5 beats usually containing 10 jokes each.

You can never get away with reusing material, people go to lots of weddings it would appear. I don't I'm adverse. Writing for standups is much more fun, but its not a good economic model and good standups usually write their own.
They just want a sounding board.

My second of just two contributions pending further developments. Teddy, I am sorry to read about your current situation and hope that you will let us know how the project goes. There is also some good advice on this thread that is quite easy to separate out. I enjoy reading your work and can only add two things.

First, we don't know how you would appear as a stand-up. It could be that you have an ability to look comical. If so, that would be a refreshing change from many who are currently treading the boards. Their visual ordinariness often pales. As for your accent, you have a view about it that others wouldn't share.

Secondly, you have the best name on this forum. When I see it, I always think of a specific song and you probably know what that is. So whatever you do, don't change it, whether it is your actual name or not. It is definitely a character name and it would be recognisable and memorable either in writing or for the stage.

Horsey thanks for the concern and feedback, but as far as being in a corner financially I am sadly not on my own these days.
I have no idea what the song is that's in your head I took the name from Seinfeld it was one of those characters that never gets seen so it personified my situation and sadly still does

Ha! That shows I am not a Seinfeld regular. :D

That's strange as it should appeal. I have seen several episodes of it or at least I thought I had. Maybe it was broadcast during my years of going out. There were a few in the mists of time. As for the song, I was thinking of Gladys Aylward in The Inn of the Sixth Happiness but not to worry. I've dug myself a big enough hole on this one and will gracefully withdraw. Except to say that you are not on your own. Far from it. I am not where you are but can identify with your position not now being in any job......and I do wish you well.
