Yes - what exactly do we get for our 10p?

I didn't mean I'd be willing to go a whole 10p myself. I was just thinking that if Teddy was successful in getting his book project accepted for funding then I and about 49 others here might try it as well.

And yes if Teddy is accepted I would be willing to pledge a (modest) amount.

Hey, I did say 'modest'.

Not the modest pledge, the action, it's better than buzzing off my idea.

Get it up and running Teddy and I will definitely put some in the pot.

Especially if you call a baddie 'Goody'

I refuse to sponsor villains names,But 75p gets you the victims cats name and for two quid you can feature in a threesome with two policewoman at the end of chapter 6.

What are you basing the £3k on, Teddy?
Is it money for you - or money to print/publish?
In the main, the campaigns seemed to be aimed at publishing costs - the writer then earning money from sales, presumably.
Not sure I've seen any where a writer's trying to raise a fee.

Let us know how you get on.

Are you going to self-publish at the end if you get funding? What happens if you decide a month in that you don't want to write the novel, or find that you can't finish it? Because I think it's dangerous to have kickstarter donors pay your rent on the promise that you publish a book that you haven't written yet. Don't want to be a downer, but you'd be putting yourself in a very stressful situation. If you could really finish it in 2 months, then why not just do it over 6 months in your free time and then you wouldn't be needlessly putting your reputation on the line?

I think if you're not serious about your project you're never going to get any money.
I mean look at the Helen Lederer thread. All the kickstarters I've put money in, or written for have been very detailed, organised and enthused.
You wouldn't buy Vague Flour Baked Produce from Greggs would you, I probably would.
As long as it had gravy in it and icing.

Actually I don't mind this sort of initiative, ie someone who is not already established and on a modest income attempting to kickstart a career with new funding. Good luck, then, Teddy with your project.

From Google, it seems that many of these mechanisms are regulated at least partially by the FSA. That is probably a good thing. While they have not as yet been wholly tested in the courts, those making donations are advised to be aware of the risks they might be taking when it comes to receiving any promised gifts. Arguably, that helps new self-starters who, while being well-intentioned, could hit hurdles like writers' block.

Interestingly, the belief among would-be additional regulators is that requests should ideally be targeted at knowledgeable investors so as to protect the naive. This is particularly true of projects started by those already established. So for people who are starting out, it is probably best to do it now before this area becomes heavily regulated. The good news is that many thousands have succeeded and with no problems.

Classic Teddy!

Your one-liners are pretty cool, and unmistakably yours. :)

Ever thought of doing stand-up?

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/armedanddelicious/armed-and-delicious?ref=search

This guy has put together a pretty slick package.
Not reached his target yet, though...

I was after my rent as I have had an eviction notice so when the roof over your heads under threat you have to go with anything.

I know I can write the book, I have it in my head and my heart, I'm just looking for break so I can find the space to do it in.

I was making money writing greetings cards but the payment structure was so slow that I got behind on everything.

Despite what some may think of me I am not over ambitious and I don't seek fame I just want to write a dead funny story and get enough dough to survive, that's all.

I love writing comedy its in my blood so the idea of paying my way doning something I love is my dream.

I will have a go with this funding thing, but as you say my chances are slim. But when you get minimum wage working nights in a job that can't guarantee you 30 hours a week and your home is on the line you have to at least try.

As for doing stand up, ask yourself this, how would I deal with hecklers, answers on a police charge sheet.

Well Teddy if you told us who you wrote cards for we could all buy some, encourage your employer to offer you more work.

Even if it was only a 1000 across the whole site it'd be a diference.

What name should I look out for and which company.

Also do you do Hannukah and Diwali for my many multi cultural chums and coleagues.

I dunno, man. I'd give it some serious thought. I've got a hunch it could be the way forward for you.

You've already got your Comedy Persona to a "T".

Plus, if you've got a Scouse accent, that should give you a head start. :)
