I've never seen Saturday Night Live, and was wondering if it's any good? Especially compared to British sketch shows? I'm aware it's got a pretty impressive list of alumni, but the films that have grown out of Saturday Night Live Sketches never struck me as that great (with perhaps the exception of Waynes World). Anybody slightly better informed than me got an opinion?
Is Saturday Night Live any good?
Well, it goes through stages of good and bad like any other program. Bill Murray, Jim Beluschi, Chevy Chase, Mike Myers stuff has been good but now it's in a dbit of a ip. The only redeeming factor on the current show is Andy Samberg, but his contributions only seem to be songs.
His movie Hot Rod was kind of funny, random humor and alot of slapstick.

I've watched a few recent ones and thought they were terrible.
I brought the best of Jon Belushi SNL...I really wanted to like it but I didn't. I might get the Will Ferrell one and see what that's like. I haven't seen any of the stuff with the current cast.
Didn't they do the Natalie Portman rap? That was good.
For me, SNL ended as a decent show once Will Ferrell left.
Nowadays it isn't respected as much, but I did like the recent one with Alec Baldwin hosting, especially the sketch with Steve Martin.
A classic sketch is the one between Richard Pryor and Chevy Chase - word association.
No. I think it's pretty poor. I can't deny the talent it spits out though.
When I watched it, I did think this one was quite funny ~
And his wonky eye adds a certain je ne sais quoi.

Belushi was of his time, the 1970s. He was a great clown of sorts for that time. Nowadays he looks sort of weak...as does the comedy from that era of SNL.
Don't f**k around: Get the Phil Hartman years. These will include Mike Meyers and Dana Carvey, Victoria Jackson, Chris Rock, Chris Farley, Kevin Nealon, Al Franken, and Julia Sweeney. It was SNL's best cast and best writing.
Belushi's Samuri Delicatessen still is a piece of class

Bill Hader. Really funny guy, especially in Superbad where he played a cop.
A lot of comedians/comic actors came from it. David Spade is one of the lesser known over here - he was CJ in the out-of-this-world-hilarious 8 Simple Rules.
I preferred him in Just Shoot Me though.
I've heard about Just Shoot Me. Was he the main star or was he supporting?
