British Comedy Guide

Any musos here?

Anybody else in the cross section of the Venn diagram for alternative music enthusiasts and alternative comedy enthusiasts? I went to (and played at - woop!) the below festival over the weekend and now I want to talk music forever.

http://acpfestival.wordpress.com/

So anybody in the habit of rooting out ace little bands doing something a bit different? Got any recommendations? Mine from this weekend are:
- Axes
- Human Pyramids
- Screaming Maldini
- Physics House Band
- From the Kites of San Quentin
- Nordic Giants (see these even if you hate music, it's an amazing show)

And if you're looking for something hardcore and plain ridiculous:
- Mucky Sailor
- Super Luxury
- Honey Ride me a Goat

Hi! Wave

I'm always on the look-out for interesting new stuff. If you have any clips/links, post them in the "What are you listening to?"/"General Pop & Rock"/ "YouTube" threads, if possible.

I try and share my new discoveries, though usually my sources are fairly mainstream. Eg I recently posted this in the YouTube thread:

MØ - Glass

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pB5RfOwrmWQ

She's Danish, and on tour with Aluna George right now.

And I posted an *old* Polica song/video that I only recently got into, and an old Soup Dragons one.

Heard good things about Nordic Giants from my son who saw them at Meadowlands last year.

This might be more the kind of thing you're interested in?

Public Service Broadcasting - New Dimensions In Sound

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfaTd79Ew7A

I also posted Traams, if you do a Search. :)

Gah, in my haste I have posted what appears to be a bit of a duplicate thread then! Thanks for the recommendations, that Public Service Broadcasting one is more aligned to my tastes :)

I might go fill the pop/rock threads in the morning when I have recovered from weekend exhaustion!

Havent heard of any of these bands yet...but I'm glad there are more music freaks out there. Like George K. I'm interested in all kinds of music so thanks for the names.

We're not alone!

Sorry if it sounded like I was redirecting you to different threads. I'm not a traffic cop. :D

What I meant was, I'd like to hear some of the stuff you mentioned (and anything else) if you had anything easily to hand. :) And that you might want to check those three threads occasionally to see what's being recommended.

It's good you started a new thread as it might have caught the attention of anyone with more left-field tastes, such as yourself, and might encourage them to post stuff too The more the merrier! :D

Personally speaking, I'm not always sure what's well-known and what isn't.

Boards of Canada is another band I've only recently discovered, but maybe they're old hat to you and others here?

Boards of Canada is one of those bands that everybody talks about and I've never actually listened to - like Sigor Ros. So I know of them theoretically....I should give them a listen really!

I misread the title of this thread as 'muses' and thought I was going to get the chance to prance around in a Greek gown.

I picked up "Tomorrow's Harvest" from my local library, and have been enjoying it.

This track is pretty representative:

Boards of Canada - Reach for the Dead

I tend to listen to them mainly as background music.

Natch, they're not Canadian, but Scottish. ;)

I've got tickets to see Sigur Ros next month. :)

Understandable.

About as interesting as a magnolia painted wall.

Be my guest, but don't forget to post some pics. :)

The orange/red gown might suit you?

That's exactly the one I immediately admired - my favourite colour, after black (which, I know, is not a colour).

That's me then:

Well turning to the real meaning of the question are there any musicians on the site?

Meeeee.....although I think of "muso" as being "music geek".
