Any chance to the Chuckle Twitter (that sounds so wrong). I've seen the pictures of Vegas on set and I must admit he looks the part.

Paul Chuckle's Twitter: https://twitter.com/PaulChuckle2/status/402898388410449920

And it was also confirmed by Barry Chuckle's agent: https://twitter.com/PhilPdale/status/403203244366647296

:)

How odd, I can't wait to see where he pops up.

Met David Jason on Tuesday and he was a very nice man with plenty of time for a fan l enjoyed talking to him. Watched Lynda Baron and James Baxter filming a small part. Enjoyed the day and I am looking forward to the show on Christmas Day.

Nice to hear Barry Chuckle has got a small cameo in this Laughing out loud

Have never seen a single episode of Open All Hours but was considering catching up ahead of the Christmas special. Has it dated much since the 70s and is it still watchable for the first time today?

How does it compare to other 70s/80s sitcoms?

I would personally rate it as one of the best, Arkwright is one of the finest characters ever written and Ronnie Barker does an amazing job of bringing him to life. A fantastic example of British sitcom writing.

That's one view, another here is that it's a competent enjoyable sitcom but not hilarious. Barker's great and his pursuit of NGA is funny, as is his meanness, but the plots aren't the most adventurous in 70sand80s sitcomland. The scripts are just about there to keep you consistently amused but they don't rival the two stars' other main sitcoms in any way. It's really all about the characters, including the till. If you like small and cosy then you'll probably love it. If you prefer big and lol funny then you might not.

Completely agree with Alfred on this one.

Just saw a Chuckle and I don't mean a decent joke! Still think someone should cast the Chuckle Brothers in something.

Mark Williams!

It was ok...nothing more. Better return to the sitcom format for DJ than The Royal Bodyguard.

And it felt like the start to a new series: revisiting old characters, old gags and introducing new characters, no real plot.

It was fun spotting all the famouses.
Her off of Likely Lads!
A Chuckle Brother!

The punchline in the end involving Johnny Vegas was as surprising as sunrise in the morning.

I wasn't much impressed and rather thought Granville became the incarnation of Albert Arwright.
This episode was really meant to be Episode 1 of the upcoming Series. Most of the characters were just a light spread of what's to come. Usually Christmas Specials tend to be about Christmas something which was not really noticeable here.
Oh, well, as a fan I will be watching yet I must accept I missed the old romantic Granville.
