I'm beginning to miss the sexist/pc-debate.
When/Why did the BCG become so dull & lifeless? Page 22

Does that chat up line ever work?
Well if that's the end of trying to outline positive steps, I'd have to say it went out with a whimper.
Quote: Teddy Paddalack @ October 7 2013, 11:06 AM BSTIf instead of the header they went out of their way to invite a 'Celebrity reader' who once a week/ month presided over critique and saw what people are capable creating it would add real impetus and really warm those who write comedy up
The whole point of Critique is it's a place you can air stuff before anyone of any importance reads it.
If you want to knacker any chances of ever making it, then by all means, let an industry insider take a look at your first thoughts.
These people are fending off half-decent work on a daily basis - they could do without the extra workload.
Critique would be different with a guest reader, writers would put up the best they can do based on the premise that they have an outside chance of tweeking the interest of an agent. All I'm trying to do is be positive I'm not saying I have the answers just the urge to jazz the gaff up and get rid of the naysayers.
This thread is very tetchy.
Let's have a group hug and talk about Nat's vagina.

Regrettably, I think that's what most of us do already.

You need this thread: https://www.comedy.co.uk/forums/thread/23789/
Jennie there's nothing tetchy about the thread at all kid I was just trying to come up with ideas that might jazz the place up, I never statrd the thread I just contributed to it.
Nogget I often use critique just to put ideas up and they can be worse than half arsed, but if they were being viewed by a person with influence I would put up stuff that was as polished as I could do it, that's my point.
You would be much better off having a submission competition, rather than having someone on to look at criitique. Maybe once every six months, run a contest in critique to pick the best 5 script samples, and they're guaranteed to get into the hands of an agreed industry professional. There would be no guarantee you'd get much more than a line of notes saying "terrible, try harder", but it seems much more likely. It could be paid for with a free advertising campaign for the agent's clients/prod co's shows etc.
Of course the changes a pro would want to do it are slim but this is a much more workable method of Teddy's idea.
And if you really want to make critique more active and inclusive, one thing it needs is some very hands on, heavy moderation. It needs to be formalised a little more and for someone to push the group threads. That style of forum isn't to most peoples' liking, but it does have a tendancy to be affective.

They did something similar on the American screenwriting site, Done Deal. They had a core of 5 pro movie writers who critiqued pages by forum members. As a result, one member got referred to a top Manager, and taken on as a client.

Eventually though, they had to stop as it was taking up too much time for the Pros. But the pages are still archived, for anyone interested.
I think the idea was initiated by a very successful comedy writer, Craig Mazin, who started visiting the site and posting about the industry in general.
Most people visiting this site are general comedy fans, so they're not going to be interested in hearing about an agent and their agency. There's just nothing here for an agent to act as guest reader.
A couple of nice upbeat ideas there, that's got to be a good start.
I think the best bet is for the can do doers to post n this thread and the negative Normans can make their own thread that way we'd get more done.
In all fairness critique is critique, leave it alone or if you care about it write stuff in it and give feedback to others.
And if you are a dreary troll, with nothing better to do than argue with yourself and post up shit to annoy people.
Take up masturbation or bellringing, or preferably both and die in an especially funny danger wank scenario. Preferably whilst ringing out
"Suicide blonde" as you dangle from the bell rope.

It's a local site for local people.

Prezunctly.

None a man invented it, it's perfect and doesn't need to change!
Is it ok to steal this - if it is just for personal use?
