Well, I liked the film. *sticks out tongue* But this maybe because i have a huge, uncontrollable crush on Zooey Deschanel.

I'm with you there. Just watched ONCE UPON A MATTRESS (with Tracey Ullman and Carol Burnett) and Zooey is just too frickin' cute. Lovey

I've never seen the original series. I watched the film and was shit scarred out of ever watching it again ... that film sucked.

Think about all those great sitcoms of the 70s that had shocking films made of that one. They're equal compared to the travesty that was H2G2's transition to the silver screen.

I grew up with HHG2TG so the film was a bit like one's dear mother turning round and saying "actually I was a murderer all along." Even more sinister is the news the there's a film adaptation of Dirk Gently in the mix.

Oh bugger... something else for 'Hollywood' to completely and utterly ruin.

The book is my fave ever but when I first saw the film I was outraged beyond belief! It was just a load of American-ized poop. Then I just deceided "Right, forget the book" and began to be able to enjoy it a bit more. Not in love with it but still.

Always wanted to play Trillian if a film version came out. Another dream shattered.

Well Radio 4 are starting their new Dirk Gently series in a couple of weeks, so let's just pretend it's that and nothing else. :)

Love the books, the radio show and the tv series. The movie was dissapointing. I love the Dr.Who stories Douglas wrote like City Of Death. Wish they would do Starship Titanic on film or tv.

There was only really one 'Hitchhiker's' for me and that was the two original series of the radio show. Remember, the books etc. were all written after those series.

Douglas Adams always invisaged a film version, and wrote several screenplays, which were rejected. It's notable that the 'green light' for the film only came after his death.

I can't watch the film out of principal. Nor can I listen to the radio series based on 'Mostly Harmless'.

'Hitchhikers' was of brilliantly of its time. It's depressing that radio comedy sound effects went back into dormancy after it... Door Slam A/Knock On Door B/Walking Over Gravel Path C, etc...

With a great stereo soundtrack and a great cast Adams took us through the galaxy via The Book and our own imaginations. This was the perfect radio comedy, and one, like 'The Goons' or 'I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue' which is the reason for radio comedy.

I am now a huge fan of Douglas Adams and really stumbled upon him via seeing Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy in a newspaper radio listing.
I only decided to give it a go because of Peter Jones being in it, because I really liked him from the radio show Just a Minute. As well as the Rag Trade on the Box. I just thought if, he was in it it would be worth a listen.
What hooked me into it from the first was Douglas Adams off beat sense of humour, it's a frankly almost surreal look at life.
I hadn't really considered myself a Sci fi aficionado but what appealed to me, was the very ordinary everyday nature of everyman Arthur Dent.
This is me simply trying to survive in a mad world and desperately endeavouring, to remain me whoever that may be.
I heard the original 1st 2 Radio series when they aired, probably one of the few that did.
I then lost touch with what became the phenomenon and, caught up with the novels in their entirety as the 5 volume compendium.
I missed the TV series when it was broadcast and my son gave me the DVDs much later as a pressie.
Douglas Adams created radio scripts for the last 3 novels, and tried to hawk them round the BBC for them to be broadcast.
But by then the producers who had worked with Adams, on the original series had moved on. Sadly it took Adams demise for Auntie to bother, with Broadcasting these books. Ironically Adams argued with a BBC suit who should be the character Agrajag, and its his voice that we the listeners hear and who else?

Blew it after the second bout though.
