British Comedy Guide

The Big Comedy Conference - from BCG

Hi everyone. So this is something we've wanted to do for some years, but only now feel ready to deliver it.

To cut a long story short. 30th November in London. A day of talks and workshops from the top people in the industry (over 40 of them) to help you be a better writer and/or performer and get your work read, made and seen.

We're not normally ones to big ourselves up, but I do like to think we know our visitors very well and what they need and want, and so are best placed to put on a day you'll find useful.

Unlike most conferences, this won't just be getting to hear from stars about how nice it is at the top for them - everything will be geared to give you practical and useful advice and information. e.g. Just how much will you get paid for your first Radio 4 commission?

Here's more info on what we have planned: https://www.comedy.co.uk/make_it/conference/

I hope you'll join us! Fire away with any questions :)

[I'm trying to act casual here, but the truth is putting something on of this scale is financially quite scary for us, so do support us if you can - or at least tell a friend if you can't go yourself - so we don't make a huge loss!]

Looks awesome, I'm there

Will check for child care cover but would hope to be there.

This sounds excellent. I've already pencilled it in my diary.

Def.

Thanks for the enthusiasm people. If you've any suggestions for topics to cover, questions you want answered, or whatever do post below - we want to make sure this day is as useful and relevant as possible.

Excellent work. Would love to be there but fambily do gets in the way. Will look forward to conference 2.

Sound good, Mark. I'm hoping to come.

You don't have a leaflet that explains this conference to skeptical wives and girlfriends do you? ;)

Looks great, and not a bad price either.

If I was still writing comedy I'd definitely be there.

F**king hell, haven't seen Differenz or steve by any other name for years.

I think lurkers should have to pay double rate. Whistling nnocently

The venue will open at 9:30am, with the talks and workshops running from 10am until 7:30pm. The gig will follow in the evening and, for those wishing to continue to network, the venue's bar will be open until 11pm.

YouLive!
A comedy show in the evening with special guests - you! Details about how to take part to follow.

Any timings/details for the evening gig? Is it just the YouLive bit?

EDIT:
Bit the bullet - staying over in that London and so will see you on the 30th.

Still think that trains from London to Manchester are $#!& on evenings, but I guess it wouldn't be 21st Century England without a crippled rail system.

Great idea and good luck to all involved, but as someone who does this in their "spare" time and for fun, there's no way I can justify the cost to myself of the conference and then getting there from Leeds.

Interested in this, but the lack of late trains to Manchester Angry means weighing up leaving after the day sessions or staying the night. And staying the night could possibly double the cost.

Unless anyone knows a 24hr café/bar near the venue/Euston where I could write away in a corner...

If I manage to afford this I will be coming from Manchester too and my God you're right - 9pm is the last train?! Bullshit! I would be thinking hostels, or if that fills you with dread, there is a cheapish hotel opposite Euston I've stayed at before for the night. Can't remember the name, but could look it up. But when I say 'cheapish' I mean 'for London' so it's still about £40.

Oh but don't stay in Camden hostel, apparently. I have heard bad things.

The train cutoff is the reason I've still never made it to NewsRevue. Now if only the conference can be persuaded to have a 5 hour break between the day sessions and the evening gig I could fit both in...

Booked a small hotel midway between Euston & the venue for £65 - though it was the last one available. The others there start at £99 iirc.

Well the Paddington and Euston areas have a bunch of cheapo hotels if you book in advance (Tune, Easy Hotel etc).

Or lonely BCGers with big houses could offer floor space in this thread?

I don't have any.

IIRC Easy already claimed to be fully booked for the 30th Nov...
