Profane language in sitcoms Page 2

Swearing never tends to bother me much, so I don't get really get offended. However, I was surprised when the phrase "pissed off" was broadcast in a Simpsons episode (just after 1800 too) because i'm sure its the only time I've ever heard a swear word in its whole run.

Can only assume its because the word is less rude in the States or that it is broadcast at a later time there? Or is the word a pre-watershed one in the UK now?

Like I say, I'm not bothered by it, but surprised it got through.

I'm not sure it's considered particularly rude in either country any more, is it? It's just a generic slightly-stronger term for angry, annoyed, etc., and in pretty common usage these days.

I'm in two minds....derek and clive made saying c**t into an primitive artform and it never fails to raise a guilty smile on my face.

Them saying it is MUCH more shocking then modern shows saying it.

Because of course, we invented swearing...
Black & white people shouldn't swear! But I love it when they do.

Probably right. Its one of those words that has watered down over the years. Was just surprised I heard it so early in the evening - can't think of too many examples where I've heard a swear word at that time.

Would probably raise my eyebrows if Homer called Ned Flanders a c**t though! :P

The first Derek and Clive album was great but by the end it was more like a breakdown put to tape.

"You know what happens when we get to heaven?"
"What?"
"They'll play this tape on a loop as we burn."
"You can't burn in heaven."
"We will, mate."

Laughing out loud

That is, sadly, exactly what it was. Took a lot of convincing for Dudley to do the last one or two, as I understand it.

Profane language in sitcom: if it's needed, use it; if it isn't, don't. 99% of times the latter applies (which is one of the reasons I was a bit riled by Viv Vyle - lots of swearing but no comedic reason).

Sorry to Aaron for starting a sentence with numerals.

Laughing out loud Quite alright.

Does this mean you are happy with the contraction of all right?

Ha!

Can we really ignore the scandalous use of an image to replicate an emotion that could otherwise have been expressed in the english language?

Badge and Cinnamon: Yes.

Homer famously used the word wanker in one episode, can’t believe it not on YouTube.

What's the most disgustingly rude swear word you can think of?

C**tflaps?

No, that just makes me giggle. Ermmm... Anyone have any suggestions?
