ISO: British Sitcom Dimly Remembered

I am ISO of Brit sitcom that I saw on US Public TV years ago. I dimly remember it and will lay out here the few details I recall.

I remember these elements:

*large, bearded man (glasses), part of a middle aged couple that had recently had a child (was the name Trevor?)

*episode would have several scenes that were mostly the large man's moonlogue as he looked down into the crib and "talked" to the child.

*I remember it having a warm and funny tone.

I wish I remembered more about it, but I only saw a few episodes some years ago and would like to find out more about it.

Thanks!

I think you're thinking of the Royale Family. If the guy said 'My arse' then its definately that.

Doesn't sound like Royles to me. Doesn't really ring any bells though. Possibly A Kind of Living? Not sure that really goes with the monologue to baby thing though.
