Beatles Albums Page 2

I suppose it depends on when you were born. I was 16 when Please Please Me was released. I saw them as a 'support' act on the Tommy Roe / Chris Montez tour
on the 10 March 1963 just as PPM went to No. 1.

So I suppose me views are skewed towards the era of the first four or five albums.

Well really Magical Mystery Tour doesn't count because in Britain it wasn't an album but got cobbled together with some single tracks - though I do love it.

I do think Sgt Pepper is TREMENDOUSLY over rated!

I like Hard Days Night and With the Beatles.

I got the box set of all the CDs.

Mono or stereo?

Stereo.

Because it's a box set I don't keep it with my other CDs. Then when I look through to decide what to play I totally forget about them.

I've just made a point of listening to Let it be and now going through Abbey Road.

I can't see how you think Let it be is a crap album. Maybe in relation to Beatles albums but it's still got some fantastic tracks; Two of us, Across the universe, I me mine, Let it be, Long and winding road, Get back.

I remember seeing the film and it was quite spontaneous and "live." Was the film ever released on DVD?

Started listening to Abbey Road - skipped Octopusses garden.

Another reason the Beatles were so good was because Lennon and McCartney were individually such great songwriters (yes I know George was too but he always wrote alone) and they bolted together bits they'd written individually to make great songs. "I want you (she's so heavy)" was just one instance.

Incidentally I don't have and have never heard "Let it be - naked."

Rubber Soul as well

Worth a poke.

Yes. It's pleasant viewing.

Y'aint missing much. Paul just got rid of Phil Spector's annoying orchestral overdubs on The Long and Winding Road (and the birdies and choral stuff from Across the Universe). The other tunes were stripped of the tacked-on intro/outro banter, and instead we get a load of cut and pasted banter and some mashed up snippets of jamming and rehearsal in a 22-minute track called Fly on the Wall - which includes a snippet of the song Because I Know You Love Me So, the only great new thing on the record. Pity it's not the full version.
