I think it's really your choice to smoke or not. It beats drugs and drink by a long shot in terms of behavioural effects (a bit "best of 3 evils" I know) and while it's legal, it's really a matter of choice what you do in your own homes.
But I will say one thing. Those smokers who bang on about having their rights and freedom of choice taken away should think about the freedom of choice of the people around them not to have their lungs harmed by YOUR want of a fag and IT DOES CAUSE HARM. Brought up in a family where smoking was the norm and it was even more the norm to do it around children, by the time I hit my early teens, my breathing was screwed. I would get short of breathe climbing the stairs and was always phlemy. It was only when I moved out into a non smoking house that it started to clear up and I was finally able to live a phlem free life. Also, cancer is an ugly word and an even uglier disease that I would never wish on anyone. So the next time anyone moans about the smoking ban, think about the OTHER lives it's effecting. It does work both ways you know.
Okay, finger wagging over. People may not like it but people don't like tumors ether. That's my 2p's worth over. I'll make a tea, we move on, and learn to love again. Done.
