It has been suggested to me that I attend.
But at £300, I am skeptical. I can see it being me and a load of other wannabes stampeding towards some poor producer.
Surely my weekend is better spent doing some actual writing?
Has anyone been?

I've never been to anything like that; any info they might give out you can get for free elsewhere. Of course there's always the chance you might make some sort of useful connection.

Not been, but from what I hear, your assesment is spot on.
It's a chance to meet kindred spirits, is about all.
They used to do a comedy writers version which was expensive but great fun.
The screen writers is more of desperate types dragging dog eared screen plays with them everywhere.
2 days and £300 is a lot of resource . Not sure what courses you've done, but a longer course is usually a good idea. I'd reccomend Dave Cohen or Marc Blake.
And networking is pretty much pointless where everyone is equally desparate.
If you want to make some useful contacts, get good feedback etc I can't reccomend the bi monthly, tuesday evening London Comedy Writers meeting.

Got any details on this, Soots? I Googled it but with no joy. Their website hasn't been updated in a while.

Ah, I can't make Tuesday. How upsetting. We could have had fun. I might have even let you buy me dinner.
You're the barrister and I'm the feminist
Still there be another in a couple of weeks
Be fun to see you there
Excellent. Will look forward to it
I'm always unsure of these things as well. I was told I could get in on the TV Writers Festival last year, but it was tons of money and I would have had to take time off work at short notice and book into a hotel....I just can't afford these things so I had to say no.
Has anyone ever been to the TV Writers Festival? Is it the same deal as this London screenwriters festival? Are these kind of things ever worth the money?
