iPad? Laptop?

Hi, Just a quick one. Does anyone use an I pad for writing purposes ? If so, any good or is keyboard/pad too small??
Cheers

Hi Betty,

I use an ipad for writing, but only really when necessary. I have a keyboard to go with it.

To be honest, I prefer a laptop or a pen and paper.

There are some good apps for story planning though. :)

What sort of stuff are you writing?

Hey sootyj, describe your genitals!

Maybe you could get some therapy.

Hi Jennie

Thanks, didn't know you could get a keyboard for it, might look into that. Just wanted something to carry around that's not too heavy. I like the idea of pen and paper but my writing is too slow and messy, and can never read what I wrote.
Pretty new to all this, I am Attempting to write a sitcom at the moment. An idea I've had floating about for a while, slow going though. Instead of actually writing I sometimes think that buying stuff will help me.

Nils what did that valentines card say you sent me?

Hey sootyj, describe your genitals!

Seems fair you sent a photo of yours, blown up several times.

Leave him alone, it's just a crush.

Also, What were the story planning Apps ??

Thanks

Can totally relate to the buying things instead of actually writing thing. I have a host of recommendations in that regard, but I don't want to send you down the same slippery slope.

No-one else will generally recommend reading, but I am going to suggest you get a book. Don't tell anyone. The Sitcom Mission book on Kindle is cheap, small and takes you through the process in 15 days. It puts you on the right track and gets you thinking about things like character and plot. It inspired me to get going and might help you too.

Can't remember what the app I'm thinking of is called - will have a look and let you know.

Good luck and stick around here - you'll find lots of useful things out from the more knowledgeable people (of which I am not one of them).

Get yourself a bluetooth keyboard - you can get some that act as a hard case as well - handy for travelling.
I got a reasonable one for £30 - you can pay more, you cam pay less
ScriptWrite is a pretty solid App - cheap , too - just a few quid.
Isn't particularly compatible with any of the' big boys' though - but if you were running any of those, you'd be best off getting the iPad version of them anyway.
I use mine all the time.

EDIT: Just re-read you post and you asked about story planning apps? Can't help there. I'm addicted to Scrivener and they've yet to get this out as an iPad app. But I'm sure there's all sorts of outlining apps.

Cheers Jennie, I do already have that Kindle book, plus a couple of others AND been on a course. These have all given me the ability to know when something is "BAD" but unfortunately not with furnished me with the necessary skills to come up with any thing of my own that is GOOD. I suppose that is where 'Talent' and actually knuckling down comes into play. Anyone know an App that can do that for me. ??

Thanks Lazzard - Will check those out.

I know exactly how you feel.

The way I got myself to write was by telling myself to write something as bad as I possibly could. Stock characters, obvious plots, weak jokes. Once I took that pressure off myself to write something 'good' I found it a lot easier.

90% of it was terrible. But 10% wasn't. I took that 10% and did it again.

Yes. The the trick to good writing is cutting the bad bits out.

Thanks for the advise. I'll get cracking !.... Right after I've mowed the lawn... and made a cup of tea....and counted up all the change in my change jar... and fashioned these paperclips into a chainmail cape etc etc
