Writing with a partner or solo?

I've been pretty much writing all my stuff so far alone. Rarely I send my scripts out to friends or post them to forums for feedback. However, I've noticed that when I get feedback in writing it is very different than in person. Sometimes, the feedback session turns into a brainstorming session and the script advances in minutes rather than weeks. I've also found that getting feedback in writing takes longer and is occasionally less sincere than in person as you can judge what the person thinks just by looking at their reactions.

Ultimately, this is just the beginning of my thoughts about writing because whenever I meet a person that gives positive specific feedback about my work and I get to talk to them in person, it benefits me so much that I'd like to start writing with someone rather than alone.

For me writing alone means I can masturbate as much as I want over the text but in the end of the day it may never be loved by anyone else but me. I love the text myself but most times I never show them to the public as I feel ashamed. Writing with someone is like making love - it can be messy but with the right kind of attitude it can be something that will be satisfying for both parties.

How are you guys finding it? Do you prefer to write alone or to write with someone?

This is a tricky one.

I can see multiple benefits of writing with someone else. Discipline, ideas, working out if something is actually funny or not.

But in truth, I know myself too well. I am a control freak. I am not a team player. So I write alone. I will have to check that side of my personality if I ever get anything produced, but for now I indulge it.

However, feedback is a different issue. I leach off absolutely everyone for feedback. Getting your script out there is the only way to test it. You may think your script is great, but in the end, yours is the least important opinion. You cannot be your own audience.

Being part of a writers group or course is also very helpful in that respect. They will give you feedback, help you brainstorm, but ultimately you will have control over the script.

However, if you think you could work with someone else,I think it's a great way to go.

I think it's one of these things that you never know unless you try. Kind of the same with gambling and grandmas... You'll never know.

If I think of myself as a writer, I think I am best at crafting stories and situations but not so good in hitting the punchlines and jokes. When I'm having a banter with my friends I lay the groundwork for hard-hitting jokes that drop others to the ground but normally I never say the funniest punchlines myself. But like I said, I do understand how to craft a decent story.
