First timer - Advice please

Hello

Could anyone please tell me where my own contact details should really go on a sitcom submission.

Thank You

Gosh, is that your main problem? You are doing well.

Title page, bottom. Usually left hand corner. (That's what it is in Final Draft, anyway) Include telephone and email address.

Oh, and welcome to the forum :)

Thank you Jennie, yes it is written, but I do keep changing it. I'm afraid I am only a word user! no final draft as yet :(

It just seemed kind of long, name, address, email, tel number etc at the footer. Also do most people included copyright to their name as well.

Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't bother with copyright - it is automatic. Asserting your right to be recognised as the author is meaningless - you are the author of the work and have the copyright.

We were talking about different software the other day. There is a guy on here who has done well, written professional stuff and uses Word. So I wouldn't worry about that! It is the content that matters, not the form.

Well done on finishing something - it is really hard to get to the end of a script. Have you shown it to anyone yet? It is really helpful to get feedback from others.

The 'critique' section of this site is great. If you put some of it up, you will get honest but encouraging help and advice. There are some very knowledgeable people on there who will be completely straight with you. I have found it invaluable. It might also make sure you are sending your very best stuff off to producers.

Good luck with it :)

Thank you again Jennie for the helpful information. So would all my contact information be put in the footer, ie address, email tel?

I thought I would try it in word since that is what I have on my laptop, but I have seen other programs, just not got them. Believe it or not I actually started it last year but kept putting it down and the last 2 months I have been re-writing and tidying so now I'm at the point of details :S

Not footer - title page.

Have a look at a few scripts online - whilst the form doesn't strictly matter, it does show that you are trying to be professional. It is perfectly possible to write a properly formatted script in Word, using Courier or Courier New font.

And well done on getting to that point. I think lots of us could empathise with the "putting it down then picking it up" thing.

Have you show it to anyone else? If not us, anyone? I would strongly urge you to get someone to look at it before sending it off.

Thank you for your detailed reply, very impressive, what happens if the title page gets lost then.

Easy - you send the script by email.

I think some people did used to recommend putting name and number on each page in case that happened, but I think technology has put an end to that.

Most producers now want electronic submissions, certainly in my experience.

The jury is out as to whether you send a query letter before the script itself. Personally, I just sent off the script, my theory being they can only say no and refuse to read it.

Thank you, but if I am sending by post, I think I will just have to make sure I put lots of staples all across it. (not) Whistling nnocently

Thanks again Wave

No problem :)

The traditional fixing is just TWO Brads.
