Queen Sketch.

I've never really tried to write sketches before, but here's one of them. Any feedback is appreciated :)

IN A POSH BUILDING, PRESUMABLY A PALACE WITH TILED FLOORING. THERE ARE ROWS OF PEOPLE SITTING, FACING THE QUEEN WHO IS STANDING WITH A VERY HEAVY LOOKING SWORD. TWO TYPICAL NEWSREADERS ARE TALKING TO THE CAMERA.

Newsreader 1
Hello and welcome to what is sure to be a special occasion. Here is Barry Bishop who is about to be knighted by the queen. Now Hugh I know you are a good friend of Barry, what do you make of this?

CUTS TO SEE BARRY IN THE DOORWAY, LOOKING SLIGHTLY NERVOUS.

Newsreader 2
Well obviously it is an honour for him, and I have never met someone so deserving of such an honour. Barry Bishop has done so much for this country and I'm happy for him that this has finally been recognised.

Newsreader 1
Thankyou for that Hugh. Now, Barry Bishop is about to enter the room. The queen is about to ask for his presence.

Queen
Mr Bishop.

Newsreader 1
And as Mr Bishop steps forward, all heads turn to see him enter the room.

BARRY BISHOP TAKES SEVERAL STEPS DIAGONALLY UNTIL HE IS LEVEL WITH THE QUEEN – HOWEVER HE IS SEVERAL TILES AWAY FROM HER. THE QUEEN LOOKS SLIGHTLY BAFFLED, LIFTS HER SWORD AND THEN TAKES ONE STEP RIGHT.

Newsreader 1
And the Queen takes one step in the direction of Mr Bishop. Now Mr Bishop must move towards the queen (BEAT) – backwards, I presume.

BARRY BISHOP MOVES BACKWARDS DIAGONALLY TO WITHIN A FEW TILES OF THE QUEEN.

Newsreader 2
This is absolutely preposterous…the queen is now attempting to knight him from there…

THE QUEEN SLOWLY BRINGS THE SWORD ABOVE HER HEAD.

Queen
Arise, Sir Barry Bishop!

THE QUEEN SLOWLY LOWERS THE SWORD BUT AS IT LOWERS, SHE TOPPLES FORWARD FOLLOWED BY A LOUD THUD NOISE. THE GUESTS GASP. NEWSREADER 1 TURNS TO FACE THE CAMERA AS NEWSREADER 2 IS STILL WATCHING THE SCENE

Newsreader 1
And it appears we have a checkmate, ladies and gentlemen!

END

I liked it Avril, it wasn't obvious from the beginning what was going to happen, you disguised it well. Nice sketch.

Good stuff, liked it. Maybe try even more chess characters in there - Stephen 'King' there as a guest, and maybe Sir Alan Sugar there as a knight may or may not work :)

Thanks Adam! :)
I like that idea Simon, I'll see if I can put it in - although I'd probably have to change it from a news channel format. Thankyou!
