I think everyone should donate their organs when they die

Please note: I'm talking what ifs here and maybe the weight of medical opinion is totally correct.

I thought that too re: donation of organs, but apparently they only take organs from people who are still alive and they don't 'waste' a general anaesthetic because the donor is medically brain-dead. But if that person was still able to feel pain despite the doctors advice (because, after all, they are talking about something that no one has ever had direct experience of) then ... what a horrible last few moments. Surely better to anaesthetise and be safe?

One of my close friends had a wife die after a coma and he told the doctors if they gave her a general anaesthetic then he'd agree. They refused and so did he.

This did change my opinion re: donation.

Interesting. General Anasthetics must be very expensive. Or it's an extreme case of NHS bureaucracy.

Wow...thats amazing :| bad-but just...wow

Well I never wanted to donate organs, but if that's true, I'm even more certain. :)

(I doubt I could anyway, but I'm talking theory here.)

I think its because organs can fail under anasthetics and because if you have signed a DNR order then they aren't allowed to do any invasive procedures.
