Winning over the jury

Courtroom Scenario

JUDGE
"Mr Hardwicke as everyone can see both the prosecution and defence teams have managed to arrive having brought with them a mass of documentation and exhibits which have no doubt been painstakingly prepared. As such I am forced to ask if your client intends to grace us with his presence? .

MR HARDWICKE
Your honour my client is a working magician who prides himself on punctuality

Looks at watch

According to the summons he was ordered to appear before the court at 11 o'clock, with the greatest respect you honour it is only 10.59

A large whoosh and white smoke that clears in an instant

In the witness box we see a magician in cloak, white gloves, and a cane.

Mr Hardwicke smiles and the jury clap.

That's funny!

(I suspect you meant 11 AM though)

I like that.

Although if he's on trial he'd appear in the dock rather than the witness box. But that's just being picky.

I hate the way people jump to conclusions regarding the integrity of magicians, the man (Who by the way was busy at a kids party)Was appearing as a witness for the defence and like most magicians had no criminal record.

Stereotyping magicians is far to endemic in modern society and members of the Magic Circle are often treated worse by the police than black youths!

The judge referred to him as "your client" when speaking to defence counsel.

"Your client" can only be the defendant.

So no assumptions about the integrity of magicians. :)

Although a sketch about the magician who is repeatedly stopped and searched by the police could be interesting...

The QC in question was 'Monty Mallard' who is also a well known theatrical agent and private investigator as well as being an ATOS assessor. The magician is listed as one of his 'Clients' in the brief ergo the term client is relevant.

But it's the judge who calls him... I will stop. I apologise to all magician kind for my magicist assumptions.

It's a good sketch, Teddy. Very well done. :)

Good to see another of your magician sketches making an 'appearance' Teddy, now I'm curious what the courtcase was about...more!

It's a pleasant enough gag, but it doesn't feel like a punchline. More like a laugh on the way to something bigger. Did you see this being a sketch? A cartoon?

I agree with Ben in a sense.
Because I was expecting the Magician to appear from nowhere & he did. so I didn't feel like it was a twist if that makes sense

I know what you mean and you're right.
If it helps explain my actions I often come on here and just post stuff up to get me going. I never intend to expand on them or do anything with them I use them to keep my hand in and to stop my head drooping if you know what I mean?
A while back I did quite a few Magician sketches that were short and made me laugh so I just tried to do it in that style.
That said I may incorporate it in a sketch I have in my head and see if it works better.
Thanks for the feedback folks

Maybe if he appeared in a puff of smoke
Got the applause
And then two halves of his assistants bloodied torso fall from above.
