Well that's one issue with having a site full of people weighing in at this stage on how THEY think your show should be. Just because someone else has a good idea, doesn't mean it fits your concept of what you want the show to be. Got to be half-open to, half-blinkered to, the thoughts of others, otherwise you'll end up with something that isn't you.

Actually that's very healthy, if you're doubting and changing your script because of the doubts. That's very, very healthy you don't want to be one of those dim wits who drags their first draught from course to course and pays for endless script analysis without changing anything.
It's when you cut funny stuff that you like, because you've got surplus funny stuff then you're onto a winner.

I think your gut feeling that Beryl is a bit silly to build the core of a sitcom around is right, but that doesn't mean you can't use her as a minor character. The tea bag scene works with minimal editing even if you completely can any idea of her having any real criminal connections.
Actually I think Beryl probably works best as a character if the viewer sees her comments as tongue in cheek, and most people treats her as a normal, harmless little old lady, but Ellie is never *quite* sure whether Beryl is serious, delusional, joking or just doesn't like her very much.
What's going on here then? 18 pages for a sitcom extract? Either this is shit hot or Cotter's involved. They normally disappear after four pages of re-bumps.
