Tips for New Comedy Writers

Dan

I think new comedy can't be written...

I love receiving advice from someone who, by their own admission, has written only one script.

Um:

"Now eight months on, we have a total of three shows in development and lots more ideas brewing in our little think tanks."

Unless all these places are developing the same script!

It was good advice apart from the partner, I know a lot of people benefit from it but I prefer writing on my own.
That said I suppose you have to be ready to work as part of a writing team if called for so I would happily do that, but if by choice I would prefer to write alone

You obviously got further with the article than I did. Still, fair play to her.

When all else fails, stick a bowl of pasta on your head...

I like how the opening paragraph is basically "I am brilliant" and then 'Point 8 ' is Be humble and 'Point 10' is Don't be an attention seeker'.

But the article does tell us how to get ahead. Have a mediocre writing style, superhuman ego and a pretty face and this world is yours.

I wonder if as soon as some people saw she was a girl, they decided they'd hate everything she said.

A girl AND a success!

Yes, that's right. If a woman is criticised it is because she is hated for being a woman. There can be no other reason.

I mean, I didn't even read the article. I just looked at the photo and made my post.

Well at least you admit you have a problem.

I was wondering (wondering not accusing) about several people who've posted, not just you Jinky. And you are the one that suggested she only got her success due to a 'pretty face'. Would you have said that if she were a bloke?

You need to be mediocre and have a large ego as well. It's not just looks you know!!

Trying to make this a gender issue moves away from the real point. The article was shallow guff that was really 'Look at me, look at me!!' from start to finish.

The real tips for writers have always been "Have a bit of talent, work hard, get lucky". I don't think 'Point 13' "Buy a little present for anybody in the industry who gives you advice" really adds much to the debate.

So just to be clear, the advice she gives is absolute shite and that's why I'm making fun of her. Not because she has breasts or any other lady bits.

Fair dos then!

(I never know how to spell that.)
