There's nothing wrong with setting things up. In fact, that's the very essence of comedy, but lines like the following are too forced and unnatural:

Salesman
"If you don't mind me saying so you look remarkably young to have been in the war"

I don't see why the salesman would say that after two vague mentions of the war.

I explained here why I felt it was contrived in a negative sense. You made no attempt to counter this, so I don't see how you can carry on whining.

This is a miss for me too I'm afraid.

It seems weak almost to the point where I feel I've missed something.

I liked it.
