At the risk of sounding patronising, start with something funny, get the audience laughing within the first 10-20 seconds you are on stage and it will relax the audience and buy you a lot of good will.
The usual advice is open with your second strongest joke and close on your best.
Cool..thanks for the reply......out of opinion would u say it was best to intoduce myself first..or just grab the Mic and crack straight on with the joke?

The compere will have announced your name so, personally, I would crack on with a quick "Hello/Good evening" and then go straight into a joke/bit of material.
I can't stand acts who come on stage, take ages to introduce themselves, then ask the audience a question such as "Is everyone having a good time?" when they clearly have no interest in the answer, hurry up and get to the funny!
Go out with your flies undone - always good for a laugh.
