British Comedy Guide

Writing Partner?

Alright?

Thought I'd try the forum to see if I could find any like-minded folks, who have an interest in trying to put something together.

I'm 20 years old and started writing comedy roughly two years ago; a few half-written scripts and eventually a complete episode which I sent off to BBC Writer's Room to inevitably no avail.

Started getting into comedy when I was 14, when I first discovered Peep Show and Partridge. Around this time I also wrote a few reviews/articles for games and music sites.

I've also popped into London a few times for open mic. nights, usually when well liquored to bust my stuttering, awkward, tittersome persona. None of the gigs turned to violence, so that can only be seen as a positive. Stand-Up influences pre-dominantly being (British) Stewart Lee and Simon Amstell/(American) Doug Stanhope and Louis CK.

In terms of sitcom/screen comedy, Seinfeld is part of my stable/(staple?) diet, with Curb also being a big influence. Anything of the Chris Morris/Armando Iannucci vein, as well as Graham Linehan (IT Crowd and Black Books.)

Mainly, I always end up touching on existentialism and social conduct.

Based in Surrey. By based I mean live. Looking for someone in the Surrey/Hampshire/Berkshire and London area.

Hi welcome to the site good to see you starting nice and early.
And a perfectly charming welcome.
However if you've got some stuff why not pop it up in critique? Give us more of a feel for where you're at.

9.13 isn't that early.

Hello there, I am 20 years old as well. I have never sent anything to the BBC writers room. But for far two long I have been meaning to. from what you have mentioned you like I can tell we are into similar stuff. The big problem being though I don't live anywhere near you, but at the very least I would love to chat on something like skype with you, just to see if we could work together and overcome the locational problem.
look forward to hearing from you. If not best of luck.

Well, that was quick! Good luck to you both.

I would like to find a collaborator/s, too.

I'm just starting out and want to write short stories, sketches, etc. (Or maybe even a longer work like a novel or film).

Please feel free to message me.

Thanks! :-)

"Mainly, I always end up touching on existentialism and social conduct."

Very interesting to read about the Philosophical element to your writing, RCher.

In my own writing, quite often I end up touching on "How things exist" (Ontology), investigating conventional notions of identity, time, etc. Philosophical inquiry can lead to some interesting plot ideas.

Would be interesting to see what we would end up with in a discussion, should Existentialism and Prasangika meet :-)

OK to message you?

Thanks!
