Gervais vs. Coogan? Page 9
Shouldn't there be a law against resurrecting old threads? That said, I enjoyed re-reading my opinions from a year and a half ago.

Correct, pat thyself on the back.
Coogan for most of his TV work. Gervais for most of Coogan's film work.
Though Gervais only doesn't have that cross to bear because he has failed to jump properly into the film world.
?
Fair enough if you're thinking about those crappy little cameos he does, like in that Something-or-other at the Museum film. But he is starring in his own ones too.

? What?
Coogan has appeared in lots of films, Gervais has only dipped his toe so far into little cameos mostly. It's only with the very recent 'Ghost World' and the yet to be releaseed 'Other Side Of The Truth' that he's made a proper step into movie-dom. Which means, compared to Coogan, he's still very much the newbie when it comes to film work. So he doesn't have as many shit films in his back-log.
Yeah, so therefore he has 'jumped in to the film world'. is what I'm saying.

Well no, I would say he has just started to venture into the film world; made the first tentative steps, where as Coogan has been slogging away, with mainly poor results, for several years.
Which is because Gervais fancies himself the auteur, so he doesn't want to appear in just anything; where as Coogan is much more an actor for hire.
I like Gervais as much as anyone. But I don't think his charismatic enough to fit on film.
His Podcasts are excellent IMO. - But recorded with 3 people.
The Office was superb - Low budget, small time.
Extras was 50/50 - The best parts, were the small scenes with his manager, ect.
Coogan works best in his own world. Being stuck with Jackie Chan or whoever does not work. He needs to bounce of his own creations - he doesn't contrast well with other styles.
They both work excellently on a small level.
IMHO.

Ah ok.
Prefer Gervais's way I must say.
I do like an auteur.
