I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this sketch - maybe it's part of a series, or it's related to some news story I'm unaware of, or it's just doing its best to trade on surrealism, but the music and the mugging made it unwatchable for me. Sorry not to be more positive.

One face that doesn't move at all.
One face that moves far too much.

i guess you had to be there.

Wow really? We're actually really proud of this sketch and have got a lot of people coming up to us telling us how much they enjoyed it.

While I know you can't please everyone I'm just a little surprised as it's the first time anyone's commented on one of our videos here for a while and both comments are negative.

Maybe it's because you both prefer more traditional comedy with set ups and punchlines and this isn't really your style?

P.S I don't mean to sound upset over it. I've recently had some bad news so I'm not my usually chirpy self Errr

I think people either find things funny or they don't - labelling things as traditional or not is silly.
I've seen a few of these and chosen not to comment - but as the thread was opening up I thought I'd try to work out what it was that didn't work for me.
And, mainly, it's because it's quite hard to watch - which I put down to the expressionless mask and the over-acting by the assistant character.
These things distract to a point where I'm not sure I'm even listening to the script.
But as you say, if other people like it, that's not a problem.

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about your bad news. There's never a worse time for critique than when the arse is falling out of your world. My giving feedback on your video was in no way meant as spiteful, I just noticed the other day that a good number of sketches on these boards had passed without comment and thought I might be of help.

Lazzard is right to say you don't do yourself any favours by trying to second guess your audience's taste. Speaking for myself, I thoroughly enjoy the bizarre/absurdist end of the comedy spectrum - Vic and Bob, Tim and Eric, most of Adult Swim's output etc. Assuming you do to, it might be an idea for you to rewatch this stuff and try to identify exactly what it is about non trad comedy that makes you laugh, because chances are it's not just rubber masks and face-pulling. For instance, strip away some of the more art house trappings and Vic and Bob have a pretty similar dynamic to Morecombe and Wise.

Another thing - you say you've had a lot of people coming up to you and enjoying your work and that's great, but who are these people? I'm going to take an educated guess based on your viewing figures and my own experiences starting out and suppose that your fans are mainly friends and well-wishers at this point. Again, that's fine, we all start that way, but there comes a stage where to really develop as a writer/performer you need honest feedback from people who don't have a stake in your personal happiness and wellbeing, and that's where places like this come into their own.

Let me suggest that you might get more out of this forum asking questions than being on the defensive, because despite the effort you're putting into this stuff now, if you ever do make it in this business I promise you'll look back on these fledgling efforts and laugh for all the wrong reasons.
