Loads of people on BCG make money from writing or are achieving things that are going in the right direction. It's a brilliant place to get a variety of quality advice! (From people who understand what words mean, obvs, not me!).
And in fairness, I think I recall BCGer Anorak (Horrible Histories, HIGNFY, stand-up career spanning years, etc) saying somewhere that there's only about 500 people in the country making a full-time standard living wage from writing comedy.

I'd say it's even less than that. But there are tons of other even less-likely ways of making a living. Like being a cook on a submarine for instance, which I've just found out pays over a hundred grand a year. Right, f**k comedy, where's my cookbook and snorkel...

Cook on a submarine is gay lingo for a dubious job you wouldnt want to do.

But meh earning money isnt that much of a deal. I mean Lee you're paying your way writing the funnies. And most months I match my day job writing the most bizarre crap for weirdos around the world.

Probably it was (gay?) sailor lingo before it was just gay lingo.

Yeah I pay my way but it took years of refusing to get a proper job before the Universe finally gave up and let me earn a comedy crust. Now if all you f**kers could kindly stop your comedy aspirations, there'd be a lot more lolly for me and I could buy Marc P's chaise longue, his monocle, and his extensive collection of Victorian pornographic lithographs.

My interpretation of full time standard living wage is probably lower than others, but that's still very few people of all the people who want comedy writing to be their career.. Room for one more on the sub?

I bagsied (resentful nod to whoever on here made me change from bugsied to bagsied) Marc P's monocle. You can have the Vpl's (curious!), let's share the longue on the sub.

Visible Panty Lines???

What an arousing thought!
